Photo engraved pendants newsletter Spring 2012

Welcome to Spring 2012, we are in the 99 day countdown to the Olympics held in London, England and there is a general buzz of excitement about who will be the winners and contenders in the vast array of sporting events. One thing for sure is there will be moments that will be indelibly burned into millions of peoples memory by the excitement and spectacle of these events. These memories will be cherished and shared around the world and is the blood that courses through the veins of our interconnected world civilisation.

Similarly smaller events that occur in your own world are there to be shared and build bonds with dispersed family and friends. I came across a pleasing blog from Multiple Mummy Kerry, which documents the every day trials of new parenthood.. Blogging is a great way to keep a diary but if you are exhausted then there has to be other ways to capture those golden days. A great memento of your little darlings could be a photo pendant attached to the car keys.

As another of my favourite bloggers wrote recently: “ Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it!”

If you want to make a gift of it then we have introduced a range of silver 925 chains at very modest prices. You can choose 925 silver snake chain, belcher, curb or ball chain.

Another new idea for creating your favourite keepsake is the full colour pendants. These cannot have any writing on the front but we can engrave a dedication on the back.

If you want to spread the love then you can order in multiples and we will give a discount starting at 10% increasing to 30% for an order of 6 identical photo pendants.

To help you choose your photo pendant we have preview software which allows you to upload your photo, position the subject, zoom or rotate and overwrite a dedication. We do ask you to upload the photo again, so we have the original image and re-enter your text.

How to use the Photo Pendant Preview Tool

This blog is to explain how and what the preview tool does. The preview tool has been designed to help the visitor to www.photopendant.co.uk see what their photo would look like on a photo engraved pendant and to help the user personalise their keepsake to their needs.

When someone is considering a personalised photo gift it is reassuring to have a good idea what it will look like before placing an order. That’s why we have created our Photo Pendant Preview Tool which enables you to upload a digital photo from your computer and see what it would look like if engraved onto a pendant.

How to use the Photo Pendant Preview Tool:

First choose from the categories a style of photo pendant you like; Colour, Diamante, Solid Silver, Deluxe Bevelled, Luxury Mounted, Jewellery Pendants.
Then select a pendant. (You will be given the choice of platinum or gold plate during the design process). This will take you to the details page where there is a prominent key saying “Design Yours”. Click  this key to start the preview process. The first instruction is to enter your name and email address.

Next select the photo you want to use from your photo files with the Browse key.  Click the upload button.  The file format of the photo should be jpg, gif, bmp, pdf, tif, eps & png. Most digital photos tend to be jpeg or gif. There is a progress loader bar which tells you how much of your photo has been uploaded. When the upload is complete your photo will appear within the outline of the pendant chosen.

There are a selection of keys which allow you to manipulate your photo in the outline of the photo pendant:

  1. Zoom magnifies the photo. You may decide to focus on one individual in a photo so you will want to make them larger in the frame of the Pendant Preview
  2. Position allows you to move your uploaded photo from left to right, up or down. Again this allows you to focus on part of a photo simply by holding down the arrow key in the direction you want to the photo to move.
  3. Stretch or Shrink.  Sometimes the photo uploaded doesn’t quite fill the shape of the pendant you have chosen so you have the option to stretch your photo to fill the frame. Alternatively you may think the image is a little too wide or long for the pendant. The left arrow shrinks your photo while the right stretches it. The up arrow stretches and the down arrow shrinks your photo from top to bottom. This can have a flattering effect on a person’s appearance but it can be overused with the outcome that it’s obvious the photo is warped. This will not be very flattering.
  4. Rotate allows you to tilt the photo by small steps, so if the person you are wanting to centre on your photo pendant is leaning to the left or right you can make them appear upright .
  5. Rotate 90 degrees click on the left or right buttons to rotate 90 degrees in that direction.

Text. If you want text to appear on the face of the pendant click on this button to enter your dedication on screen. Please limit your text so it does not obscure the subject of your photo. You can increase or decrease the size of the font and choose what style of font from a dropdown menu.

When you are happy with your layout click on the finish editing key and we will send a copy of the preview to your email address. It saves the Preview in our records with your name and email address. This completes the Preview process. This is not the same as placing an order. However it is very helpful for us to have it to refer to when producing an order.

Diamante Photo Engraved Jewellery

Photo Pendants are very pleased to add a range of diamante encrusted photo pendants to its range.

There is no gemstone closer in likeness to the diamond than the cubic zirconia, or ‘diamante’ as it is more commonly known. Diamante jewellery costs a fraction of the diamond alternative, yet the visible result is remarkably close.

We offer our Zircon Photo Pendants in rhodium plate or gold plate. We have a number of different shaped diamante pendants available, including circle pendants, which are suitable for images of faces; ID-tags which are suitable for portrait images; and heart-shaped pendants, which make a stunning anniversary or Valentines’ Day gift, with an image of the happy couple engraved on the face.

The diamante border of the engraved image enables the wearer to display all of the style and class of someone who spent much more on real diamonds. The small gems also provide a glamorous frame to the engraved photo, drawing attention to the image in the middle.

Engraved Pet Tags

Any of our pendants can be used as a pet tag. We recommend small and lightweight pendants as the most appropriate for a cat or small pet. We can engrave a photo of the owner or the pet plus contact details.

Dog Tags are another popular shape for photo jewellery

These pendants are named after the US army identity tags known so well from US Vietnam war films. Dog tags are good for engraving a high detail photo portrait of your children/family/lover or pet. Other possible ideas to create that perfect personalised gift would be their favourite sport’s teams motif. We can engrave photos of famous individuals if you supply the image with any text of your choice.

Engraved medical emergency pendants save lives!

The original purpose of dog-tags was to identify soldiers in war times and their use has spilt over into civvy street in recent decades. A related purpose can be to record emergency medical information for diabetics or people with similarly urgent medical conditions. On one side of the pendant we  engrave the Emergency medical symbol

When deciding what to engrave on a medical pendant, the most important thing to engrave is the patient’s condition and allergies.  The next most important information is the name of the patient, and a phone number for an emergency contact person. On the medium pendant there is sufficient space to engrave the patient’s name; condition and allergies; plus 1 or more emergency contact details.

Your choice of pendant shape is dictated by the style of photo

At Photo Pendants we offer a range of pendant styles and shapes to suit different purposes and photos. Photographs can be split into two broad styles; portrait which is an upright image or landscape, which is wider than taller. We find portrait photos work best for photo engraving as they tend to be close up to the subject and have more contrast.

Circlular shaped pendants include Oval pendants;the classic portrait shape of a person’s head and shoulders; a school photo would work well in this shape. A circular photo pendant suits a close-up portrait of a person with a small text message on the bottom. We can curve text so it does not cover the face. Most mothers would be overjoyed with a photo of their child as a birthday present. Alternatively a pet’s face will work well if the background is contrasting. We can engrave a longer message on the reverse side of any pendant.

Amongst the oblong pendants are a square pendant; very practical for key rings; Ring rectangle which is better suited to the head and shoulder portrait or upper torso; Family rectangle suited to family/group pictures as will allow three or four individuals to be engraved in sufficient detail to be recognisable.

Say it with a heart! The ideal gift for Valentine’s Day or Mothering Sunday

The heart has long been used as a symbol to refer to the spiritual, emotional, moral, and in the past also intellectual core of a human being. Click here for more information on the origins of the heart shaped symbol.

Luxury hearts are our largest heart pendant and  allow a larger than normal portrait photo to be engraved; including a short message/name or date. Ideal as a Valentine’s gift or keepsake for a mother or lover.

We also offer small hearts which are suited to making ear-rings and can make a great Mother’s Day gift if each ear-ring had a photo of a child’s face. Medium hearts suit ear-rings/pendants or key-rings.

A friendship heart comes in two parts, each on it’s own “o” ring to attach them to a chain or key-ring. The photo friendship heart has been designed to be shared by two people with each person having the other’s portrait on their part. We can use a single photo or use two seperate photos.

What makes a good photo engraved pendant?

The file size of your digital photo is very important to how well it will work as an engraving. Most photo pendants are roughlythe size of a 10p piece, so the detail visible to the human eye is limited by the size. For this reason we recommend close-up portraits of a person’s face with a strongly contrasting plain background. A blonde haired person photographed with a yellow wall background will not have a strong outline for the eye to focus on when engraved. Similarly a black dog on a dark carpet will have little contrast, so will not work well in engraving.

Flash photos can work well as they increase contrast between the subject it’s background.
